Parks and people

Well Good Socials today, a new face and a few familiar ones. At one point, there was so much chatter it was really quite loud. After the coffee morning, I caught up with some of our newest community conversationalists about their week.

One of the main themes coming up seems to be the reduced use of the park. People feel too fearful to let children play there, avoid it – the minority spoiling it for the many. It strikes a chord with the other park in Springfield being underused.

A bid for which has been submitted this afternoon, plans and motivation driven by Victoria of Give it a grow following local conversations with neighbours in the hope to re-generate some community ownership of their spaces.

It’s sad to think how many children are denied access to their green spaces and play spaces.

Whilst it all seems quite negative on first look, I’m hopeful that the community will come together and realise that it is, in fact, the many that have the power if they become more cohesive and back each other up. This will take time, but it will be a clear shift and easily identifiable if they do.
